Alvin C. Jacobs, Jr.: This Is Power
A professional photographer, image activist, and former Gantt Center artist-in-residence, Alvin C. Jacobs, Jr. emphasizes the importance of harnessing and controlling Black creativity and how the Gantt provides a conduit to do so. The impactful exhibition, Welcome to Brookhill, exclusively featured Alvin’s work which captured life in Brookhill Village, an African-American community in Charlotte dating back to the 1930s. Like many urban, inner-city communities, Brookhill Village is threatened by gentrification and displacement.
