Jonette Harper: This Is Honest History
Jonette Harper, daughter of founding mother Dr. Mary T. Harper, recalls the establishment of the Afro-American Cultural Center and how the aim was rooted in service and education, which continues today. Harper expresses how we all share responsibility in ensuring "honest history" is preserved and shared. Her mother, along with Dr. Bertha Maxwell-Roddey, birthed an idea that would ultimately become the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture.
