Esteemed attorney and civil rights/education advocate James Ferguson II explains how the Gantt, as a community institution, helps the world understand and appreciate the African-American experience.
With nearly innumerable accomplishments and accolades to his credit, Ferguson was part of a group that created North Carolina's first racially integrated law firm, one of the first in the South. He was successful in obtaining a reduction of the death sentences to life imprisonment for the only four people whose cases were decided under North Carolina's Racial Justice Act, the only law of its kind in the nation.
